Lake Trasimeno: plenty to do!
Umbria is surrounded by other regions and therefore has no coast. But it does have the largest lake in central Italy: Lago Trasimeno. The lake is 29 kilometers from Casa San Carlo.
Lake Trasimeno has a circumference of almost 60 kilometers and has a rich history. It was on these banks that Hannibal defeated the Romans in 217 BC. There are a number of nice villages on the lake, including Passignano, Tuoro sul Trasimeno and Castiglione del Lago. In the middle of the lake are three islands: Isola Maggiore, Isola Minore and Isola Polvese. From the coastal towns, ferries go to Isola Maggiore and Isola Polvese. On Isola Polvese you can visit a beautiful monastery and a 15th century castle.
